About

A thriving community hub
Music for Everyone!
The Nelson Centre of Musical Arts is a bustling, thriving community hub that is accessible, affordable and inclusive.
Situated in the heart of Nelson, our mission is to be Aotearoa New Zealand's most vibrant, innovative and accessible music community. We have provided a welcoming and sustainable environment where our community can teach, learn, create, perform, appreciate and connect through music since 1898.
Our two performance spaces are acclaimed by local and visiting performers. The historic Nelson School of Music Auditorium is frequently regarded as one of the best concert halls in the southern hemisphere.
He Kupu Nā Te Kaiwhakahaere | A Word from the director
Nau mai, haere mai – welcome to the Nelson Centre of Musical Arts.
Music has always been at the heart of NCMA, and it’s a privilege to be part of a place that has been shaped and supported by the Nelson community since 1894. Whether you’re taking your first lesson, performing on stage, or simply enjoying a concert, we want you to feel welcome here.
At NCMA, music education and community are at the core of what we do. We honour our rich history while embracing an ever-evolving musical landscape—supporting a broad range of styles and experiences, from lessons and workshops to performances by community groups, national artists, and international performers.
NCMA has always thrived with the support of its community. By becoming a member, attending concerts, or offering financial support, you’re helping to ensure this special place continues to grow for future generations. We look forward to welcoming you through our doors.
Ngā mihi nui,
Myles Payne
